It’s that time of year again and you may be planning on going big with your holiday decorations. However, while decorating your home is a sure way to make it look even more amazing during the holidays, the thick garlands, heavy strands of lights, glittery ornaments, and bulky Christmas trees can leave behind stubborn messes and unsightly damage once the holiday season is over. The last thing you want to worry about is damage being done to your flooring or walls because of the mishandling of your Christmas decorations.
Use A Safe Method
Once you begin hanging and installing decorations in and around your home, a safe and damage-free method should be used. The same method should also be used when taking your decorations down because the last thing you want to worry about is your floors or walls being scratched because of using an improper method. Making sure the method used is safe and cautious will eliminate the worry of any part of your home being damaged by your decorations.
Protect Your Floors
If your Christmas tree isn’t properly placed, it could do some serious damage to your floor. With many tree stands being made of hard plastic or metal, they can often leave permanent indentations in your carpet or scratch your flooring. Fortunately, there are ways to protect your flooring from severe damage and to make sure that you are able to enjoy your Christmas holiday without worry. By placing your tree in a sturdy basket or using a piece of plywood as a base, you will not have to stress and worry about if your flooring is being destroyed by your beautiful Christmas tree. If you want to make the plywood base more decorative, using a tree skirt or wrap will help.
Decorate Without Nails
Do you plan on hanging decorations around your home to help bring in the holiday cheer? If so, you should try to avoid using nails or screws. Using removable self-adhesive hooks or hanging strips will keep you from having to make holes in your walls to hang decorations. Hangers may be best for decorations you want to hang. This method will keep your decorations from crashing down.
However, one method to avoid is using duct tape, double-sided tape, or other adhesive products that aren’t designed for use on walls. Unfortunately, if you use these products, you are risking a sticky residue being left behind or even worse paint being peeled off of your walls once you remove the decorations.
Secure Your Garlands
Garland decorations can be very heavy, especially if they are decked out with ornaments, pinecones, ribbon, and other trimmings. If you are planning to decorate your fireplace, then snaking the garland across the top of the mantel will give it the enforcement it needs. Another great way to make your garland decoration stand out on your fireplace and hold it efficiently in place is by using clear fishing lines and enough self-adhesive hangers. For added support, attach the hangers to the top of the mantel’s surface instead of across the front. Using this method will put less pressure on the hangers, so your garland is less likely to fall.
You may have to take extra precautions when decorating your home this year, but these precautions and safe methods will be well worth it and won’t interrupt enjoying your holiday with friends and family.
